The tigress has killed three women from Chandrapur district, Nagpur in December 2016.

Nagpur: The Nagpur bench of the Bombay high court on Thursday gave permission to the forest department to shoot down a tigress in the Kondhali area of Nagpur, which had killed two people between September 19 and October 2.

Locals living in and around the Kondhali area complained that the tigress has become a threat to their lives. The feline was captured from Brahmapuri in July 2017 and released in the Bor Tiger Reserve. The big cat had killed a total of four people — two in Brahmapuri area and two others after it was released in the tiger reserve area.

Chief forest officer (wildlife), A.K. Mishra had ordered for the killing of the tigress as she posed danger to the locals living in the area, but Dr Jerryl Aviash Banait, a wildlife activist, had filed a petition challenging the decision. On Thursday, the HC bench directed the forest department to shoot the tigress.
