Noida: The Noida police on Thursday has given a clean chit to the employer of the maid, who alleged that her employer had held her captive on charges of stealing a sum of Rs 17,000 from the house.

The police arrested 13 people on charges of rioting and vandalising property in the violence that broke out at the Mahagun Moderne society in Sector 78 after reports that a domestic help employed in the building was held captive and thrashed by her employer.

On Wednesday, a mob of around 500 people barged into the Mahagun Moderne society located in Sector 78.

The mob pelted stones and smashed cars parked inside the society. It took around 3 hours for the police to control the situation.

“We have registered four separate FIRs in the case, One by Zohra (the maid), Harshu Sethi (the flat owner and employer of Zohra), RWA of the society and one by the security in-charge of the society,” said Arun Kumar Singh, SP City, Noida.

Mr Singh added that police scanned all of the CCTV footages of the society and it was established that Zohra had spent the night at another residence’s flat. She had left Mr Sethi’s flat and went to another block and stayed over night in an old lady’s house saying she was unwell and had lost her phone.

The old lady had informed the guard of her building as well about Zohra being at her house.

“We had detained around 50 people after the attack. After verifying their presence with the help of CCTV installed in the society, finally 13 people out of 50 were arrested on Thursday evening,” added Mr Singh.

Meanwhile, the police denied all the reports of the mob of being Bangladeshis.

“There are around 150 maids working in the apartment complex. And all of them are verified have authentic documents to prove their Indian citizenship,” said Noida police.
