Nashik: 3 held for sex trafficking, survivor recounts ordeal

Nashik: Girls trafficked from Bangladesh are allegedly sold to prostitution rings being run in Kolkata, Mumbai and Nashik, claimed a minor survivor rescued by Nashik police.
Acting on what the girl revealed as the traffickers’ modus operandi, the Nashik police moved quickly to arrest three persons in connection with the racket on Thursday.
The survivor held a press conference in Sinnar detailing her ordeal. She claimed that her maternal aunt and Bangladesh national, Majida Abdul, had brought her to India on the pretext of sightseeing and sold her off to a brothel owner, “Madam” Mangal

According to her statement, Nani’s son Vishal and alleged pimp Sonu Narhari Deshmukh started raping her and soon pushed her into prostitution. After spending some months in Mumbai, the survivor was sold to a brothel in Kolkata. She managed to escape from the unnamed Kolkata brothel to Nashik, where she held a press meet.
Immediately, the police swung into action and registered cases against six persons under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) 366 (B), 368, 372, 373, 376 (2) (N), 376 (D) and Immoral Traffic Prevention Act Sections 5 and 6. The police arrested alleged pimps Vishal and Sonu, and Nani and Majida Abdul. Three persons, whose names have not been given, are absconding.
Andhshraddha Nirmu-lan Samiti (ANS) senior activist and lawyer, Ranjana Pagar- Gavande, said that she had raised the issue earlier but found no support from officials and locals.
“This human trafficking is a blot on humanity and should be erased in national interest,” she said. The brothel in Musalgaon MIDC area of Sinnar tehsil has been operational since many years. Locals said that prime accused, Nani, was untouchable owing to her high connections.
