Nagpur: The Maharashtra government on Friday announced a comprehensive package of Rs 22,122 crore for carrying out various developmental activities for Vidarbha and Marathwada and said that no stone would be left unturned towards the development of backward regions —particularly Vidarbha, which is hosting the Assembly session.

Finance minister Sudhir Mungantiwar, in presence of CM Devendra Fadnavis, said the package includes Rs 13,422 crore for completing 89 pending irrigation projects in both regions, which suffered due to non-availability of irrigation facilities. Mr Mungantiwar ridiculed the Opposition benches particularly LOP Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil saying as many as 17,703 farmers had committed suicide during the Congress-NCP regime.

The focus would be on the development of industries, irrigation facilities, agriculture and tourism in these two regions, he said. As part of the package, a milk collection network and processing facilities would be created, Mr Mungantiwar said, adding that a new government milk brand ‘Gondavana’ would be created on the lines of the Mahananda brand. A plant will be set up in Gadchiroli.

A ‘skill university’ will also be set up at Aurangabad while hostels will be constructed in all 19 districts of Vidarbha and Marathwada. A medical college will be set up on a private-public-partner basis at Washim.
