Nashik: After a lull of several days, heavy rains lashed Nashik and Ahmednagar districts on Sunday. Godavari and Darna rivers in Nashik and Mula and Pravara rivers in Ahmednagar started overflowing due to the heavy rains.

The drought-prone Ahmednagar district received good rainfall on Sunday. However, water logging was reported in low lying areas of Sangamner tehsil town of Ahmednagar. Nashik’s Godavari river, which flows into Ahmednagar, caused flooding in low lying areas in Ahmednagar.

The highest rainfall in Nashik division was recorded in Igatpuri tehsil bordering Thane with 3110 mm rainfall recorded. Peth, Trimbakeshwar and Surgana tehsils recorded 1997 mm, 1859 mm and 1684 mm rainfall respectively. The downpour continued since Saturday, but the intensity increased at midnight and continued throughout Sunday. The Godavari river ghats in Nashik city were submerged.
