RSS gets notice for beautifying HQ

The Nagpur bench of the high court served notices to RSS general secretary and 3 others.

Nagpur: A high court bench here on Wednesday served notices to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) general secretary, Bhaiyyaji Joshi and three others for undertaking beautification and development works within the RSS headquarters at Reshimbagh at the cost of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC).

Justice Bhushan Dharmadhikari and Justice Arun Upadhye of the Bombay high court, Nagpur bench were responding to a public interest litigation (PIL). They also served notices to the General Administration Depart-ment, Maharashtra government, commissioner of NMC and chairman of the standing committee of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled NMC and asked them to reply to the notices by October 3.

The petitioner, Janardan Moon, a former corporator of the NMC and an RPI activist took a strong exception over the NMC decision to undertake beautification and development works within the Smruti Mandir premises of the RSS, which houses the tomb of RSS founder K.B. Hedgewar and former RSS chief M. S. Golwalkar, at a cost of '1.37 crore.

The proposal to undertake the development works was recently passed in the general body of the NMC during the budget session of the civic body.
