Jaipur: Senior IAS officer B.B. Mohanty absconding, after a rape case was registered against him four years ago, today surrendered before the police. He was taken into custody and after medical test will be produced before a court.

“He contacted three days ago and expressed wish to surrender. He finally came yesterday,” ACP Nem Singh said.

A 23-year-old civil services aspirant accused him of raping her at his flat in January 2014. The victim stated in her complaint that Mohanty raped her on February 19, 2013 at his flat on the pretext that he would help her clear IAS exam.

Mohanty was an additional chief secretary-rank officer at that time. When the FIR was filed, he was deputed as the chairman of Rajasthan Civil Services Appellate Tribunal. The IAS officer had been suspended by the Raje government shortly after the FIR was registered against him. When he didn’t present himself for questioning, the police filed an application in the court, requesting it to issue an arrest warrant.
