Nagpur: Eight doctors and four nurses have landed in trouble for issuing a discharge certificate to a patient who had already died in the state-run Indira Gandhi Medical College and Mayo General Hospital in Nagpur. A committee set up to probe irregularities, including the non-issuance of a death certificate to relatives of patient Kishor Mendhe — who breathed his last at the hospital on June 24, has ordered action against eight doctors, a senior nurse and three other junior nurses.
The internal committee directed the authorities that contracts of three doctors should not be renewed, the services of one doctor should be terminated forthwith, and office memos should be issued to three other doctors.
However, the committee has not implicated anyone of any wrongdoing or negligence. Based on the six-member committee’s report, acting dean Dr M.C. Mehta has taken action against the staff found guilty of not doing their duty in accordance with the rules.
