Ajit Pawar, without naming the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), said that they would not have lost the polls in five states if EVMs could be tampered with.

Nagpur: The Winter Session of the legislature went smooth this time and although both Congress and NCP have tried to make an impact on the house proceedings, the absence of raising issues in an effective way helped the government.

Various key issues like the mess of loan waiver, pink bollworm on cotton, farmer’s death in Vidarbha due to hazardous pesticides, deteriorating law and order situation in the state, and serious concerns over educational issues has stirred the state for the last three months. It was expected that the opposition parties would raise these issues strongly but in reality, the opposition failed to pressurize the government.

“Opposition was serious initially as they have pulled a good number of people in their Hallabol rally. But, the news of FIRs in the irrigation scam could have forced opposition and especially NCP to go slow in the house,” said Anant Dikshit, a senior political observer. “We raised the loan waiver issue and also compensation for farmers over pink bollworm. The government failed to give a satisfactory reply on the law and order issue. ,” claimed NCP leader Ajit Pawar.
