Girls outshine boys in HSC

The stream-wise percentage is 95.85 for science, 81.91 for arts, 90.57 for commerce, and 86.27 for minimum competency vocational courses.

Pune: The Maharashtra Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examination held this year has registered an overall pass percentage of 89.50, with girls outperforming boys in the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE). Results for MSBSHSE were declared on Tuesday.

The board uploaded the results on its website, with students able to see them after 1 pm on May 30. Results can be checked at http://mahresult.nic.in/https://mahahsscboard.maharashtra.gov.in/.

Overall, 1,429,478 students appeared for the examination held in February and March 2017, out of which 1,279,406 passed. Girls led the way with 93.5 pass percentage while boys scored pass percentage of 86.15. The physically disabled recorded 93.01 pass percentage. The results this year are 2.90 per cent better than those in 2016 (86.60 per cent)

The stream-wise percentage is 95.85 for science, 81.91 for arts, 90.57 for commerce, and 86.27 for minimum competency vocational courses. The Konkan division registered the highest pass percentage (95.2) while Mumbai registered the lowest at 88.21 per cent. Pune registered a pass percentage of 91.16; Nagpur 89.05; Aurangabad 89.83; Kolhapur 91.40; Amaravati 89.12; Nashik 88.22; and Latur 88.22.

Seven hundred and ninety seven students were caught cheating in the exams. Results of 1,200 students have been reserved by the board for various reasons.

The state conducted the HSC examination through nine divisions, and 406 question papers of 165 subjects were availed.

Re-examination will be held from July 11, the time-table for which will be displayed on June 1 on the internet. Mark sheets will be distributed on June 9 after 3 pm at the respective schools and colleges. Students have been asked to fill forms for re-evaluation from May 31 to June 9.

Gangadhar Tamhane, chairman, MSBSHSE, said, “With increasing use of the Internet, the number of question papers getting leaked has also gone up. To deal with the problem, we will not allow students to enter examination halls after 10.30 to 11 am.  Earlier, students were allowed to enter the hall till 11.30 am. We are also mulling over whether we can install CCTVs at exam halls. Examination papers will be sent directly to examination halls and not to the centres.”
