Kolkata: Chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday announced in the Assembly that her government would set up Silicon Valley Asia in Rajarhat, to attract investments and create employment in the IT industries. She informed that the decision was the outcome of deliberations at the fourth edition of Bengal Global Business Summit which was held on January 16-17.

After the presentation of the state budget Ms Banerjee told the media, “We are looking for land in Rajarhat to build Silicon Valley Asia in Rajarhat which will be on the lines of what exists in California. Asia has been added to the project as it will be the gateway to the continent. We are trying to build a Asian hub for IT sector.

The plan of action will be prepared once the land is found.” She added, “It will not be difficult to get the land as land bank is there. We want to see our IT in an active mode.

The hub will help in quick campus recruitments. Besides those who work abroad can return and work here.” Asked if the IT companies would be interested to set up their industries there Ms Banerjee argued, “All will come. Why not? So many industries are also interested. Such proposals are coming up. So the government alongwith other industrial partners will do that.”
