Centre gives Mukul Y-category cover
A small team of personnel has also been deployed at Mr Roy's home for security.
Kolkata: Former Trinamul Congress leader Mukul Roy has been reportedly provided with Y-category security by the Centre before his entry to BJP. State BJP has welcomed the step.
On Tuesday, a team of personnel from a Central paramilitary force visited Mr Roy’s residence at Kanchrapara in North 24 Parganas and conducted an inspection before meeting the cops at the Kanchrapara police station, according to sources.
A small team of personnel has also been deployed at Mr Roy’s home for security. The Centre’s move came after the former Rajya Sabha MP recently wrote to it asking for security in wake of his exit from chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s party.
Nearly two weeks ago Mr Roy met senior BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya and expressed his concern about his security, sources revealed adding that Mr Vijayvargiya then advised him to write to Union home minister Rajnath Singh.
State BJP president Dilip Ghosh said, “In view of the present political scenario in the state Mr Roy has got the security cover as he has sought for it and the Centre has accorded it to him.”
Endorsing the central government’s step he added, “A controversial political person who has recently quit the Trinamul may come under attack. His followers were targeted in such a situation already. That is why he has been provided the security cover. It is justified. There is no reason of taking a risk in such a matter.”
