Youth held from Delhi for duping old woman

The victim got the contact number of the arrested accused online and contacted him for purchasing a puppy for Rs 18,000.

Kolkata: A youth was arrested by the criminal investigation department (CID) from New Delhi on Friday morning for allegedly cheating a septugenarian woman on the pretext of selling her a pet online. Kamal Sharma (30) was caught during a raid from Pul Prahladpur in connection with a case registered at Howrah government railway police station.

He had duped the 70-year-old woman in Kolkata on the pretext of selling a Basset Hound puppy, said deputy inspector-general of police (operation) Nishat Parvez. The victim got the contact number of the arrested accused online and contacted him for purchasing a puppy for Rs 18,000. The accused introduced himself as Akash to her.

She also made online transfer of Rs 18,000 to the account of the accused on April 20. But the accused did not supply the puppy and switched off his cellphone. Kamal was produced before metropolitan magistrate at the Saket court that ordered for four days’ transit remand for the culprit’s production at Howrah court within June 5.
