Kolkata: A gang of twenty miscreants carrying firearms stormed a private hospital in Hooghly early on Saturday for the treatment of an injured youngster.

Alleging a delay in treatment they first beat up two medical staffers. One of them had even barged into the Intensive Care Unit and held another staff at gun-point.

The CCTV captured the entire scene of the attack. In the early hours, the youngster who had suffered multiple injuries in a road accident, was brought by a gang of 20 in several motorcycles to Paramount Hospital at Manicktala in Shreerampore.

While he was taken inside for the treatment at the Intensive Care Unit, his aides, who were allegedly in a drunken state, were asked to fill up the admission form which infuriated them.

They first thrashed the receptionist at the admission desk before turning the heat on a medical staff.

The gang had also demanded that the injured had to be treated and cured immediately while making it clear that they would not fill up the form.

Suddenly one of them brazenly entered the Intensive Care Unit and threatened a medical attendant with a gun.

The doctors and patients of the hospital were in shock. Many of them fled for cover. The rowdism continued for around 15 minutes following which the gang of miscreants took away the injured youngster after a first-aid was completed.

A doctor of the hospital named Shankar Prasad Dey informed the Kolkata police that the private hospital was locked from inside for the patients’ safety after the hooliganism.

“Sometimes hospitals become the target of rowdism. However this incident has left our staff panicked. That is why the entrance has been locked,” he said. A complaint was lodged at the Shreerampore police station.
