Guwahati/Kolkata: Two more FIRs were filed against West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee in Assam on Thursday for her alleged “instigating remarks” that threatened the unity of the country and her attempt to create unrest in the state, Director General of Police (DGP) Kuladhar Saikia said. The DGP told reporters in Guwahati that two cases were filed against Ms Banerjee on Thursday at the Pan Bazar and Basistha police stations in Guwahati, in addition to the one filed against the Trinamul Congress (TMC) chief in Lakhimpur district on Wednesday. Reacting to the development, Ms Banerjee told reporters in Kolkata, “They have done such a great thing. I am sitting here in West Bengal. What will the FIRs against me in Assam do?”

Taking a dig at the BJP, she said the saffron party lodged an FIR every day. “They had lodged an FIR when we had gone to Arvind Kejriwal’s residence. They will get it back. I am not scared. I speak for the people. They can lodge millions of FIRs against me, I do not care.

“We know we are living in a super emergency. There is no democracy in the country,” Ms Banerjee said. She also wondered why section 144, CrPC was imposed in the districts of Assam if there was peace and everything was fine.
