After hospitals, schools on chief minister's radar
The policy should be such that neither the institutes nor the government face any problem.
Kolkata: Expressing her concern over exorbitant fees in the name of donation by some private colleges and schools across the state, chief minister Mamata Banerjee said on Friday that her government will frame a policy to somewhat “regulate” these institutes but without infringing upon their autonomy.
“I will hold a meeting with the management of the private educational institutes after the exam season is over and ask them for suggestions so that we can address this situation. Accordingly there will be a policy to curb the institutions from charging hefty fees and donations,” Ms Banerjee said during the discussions on the West Bengal Clinical Establishments (Registration, Regulation and Transparency) Bill 2017 at the state Assembly.
She further added that some private schools and colleges in the state impart quality education and are very good but there needs to be a control in the huge donation or other fees that are charged by them. “I would ask education minister Partha Chatterjee to fix the meeting with the management of the institutions. The policy should be such that neither the institutes nor the government face any problem,” she added.
