Rituparna's ancestral jewellery stolen

Kolkata: Jewellery worth Rs 9 lakh were stolen from the ancestral residence of actor Rituparna Sengupta in the city. An insider’s hand is suspected in the theft, which took place at Kanchanjangha apartment on Robinson Street. A complaint has been lodged at the Shakespeare Sarani police station on Tuesday. According to the actor, the gold ornaments belonged to her and her mother. She said that her mother found the jewellery boxes lying broken in the almirah in the morning. Ms Sengupta recalled that her mother was emotionally attached to the jewellery since she received them down many generations.

Initiating a case, the police suspect that someone who knew about the jewellery was involved in the theft. The lock of the almirah was found intact which confirmed the suspicion of the investigators. The detective department of the Kolkata police is also probing the theft.
