Kolkata: State BJP president Dilip Ghosh on Wednesday informed that the party will file a case at the Supreme Court for a peaceful panchayat elections in state. “Today our team has moved the SC. Two cases will be filed there. One of them is about the plea for free and fair polls starting from filing of nomination to counting,” he said.

Mr Ghosh elaborated, “Many of our candidates have been attacked by the Trinamul. They could not file their nominations even. So our appeal to the apex court will be to direct the state administration to conduct the polls peacefully so that a opposition party can take part in the polls,”

He added that the other case would be a defamation suit of '10 crores against a newspaper which accused the BJP of orchestrating the clash at Asansol and Raniganj during the Ramnavami celebration and blaming the BJP workers of hurling bombs on the cops. The BJP’s plan to move the SC comes after a ceasework by the lawyers has been underway at the Calcutta High Court. Mr Ghosh questioned chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s silence into the attacks allegedly by her party workers on the BJP candidates.

He alleged, “The Trinamul chief can tweet against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. But where is she now? Why is she silent now? If a free and fair election is held, the Trinamul will cease to exist. Trinamul is party of the anti-socials. Its registration should be cancelled.” The BJP MLA also countered Trinamul secretary general Partha Chatterjee who declared that a delegation of the ruling party would visit the West Bengal SEC on Thursday to lodge a complaint of violations of the Model Code of Conduct by Mr Ghosh for his threatening comments and to seek action against him. Mr Ghosh claimed, “Mr Chatterjee behaves as if he does not know anything. On his order the Trinamul workers are unleashing violence. We will also lodge complaints against ministers Subhendu Adhikari and Rabindranath Ghosh with the poll panel.”
