Kolkata: Trinamul Congress secretary general and state education minister Partha Chatterjee has ordered the arrest of the four accused, who had allegedly thrashed a student after undressing him and made a video of the assault on him at St Paul’s Cathedral Mission College in central Kolkata for seeking an explanation about the fund utilisation of the students’ union affiliated to the Trinamul Chhatra Parishad, the ruling party’s student wing.
On Sunday night the victim, who is also a member of the same student union, lodged a complaint with the Amherst Street police station against the four accused: Arnab Ghosh, the college unit president of the Trinamul Chhatra Parishad, two students: Abhijit Dolui and Enamul Haque and Ananta Pramanik, the college’s non-teaching staff. An FIR was initiated. The victims earlier lodged a complaint with the college authorities which set up an inquiry committee of eight members.
A decision has been taken to suspend Mr Pramanik who accompanied the three accused students. On Monday Mr Chatterjee said, “On Sunday I advised the student to lodge a complaint with the police. I have asked the administration to conduct a probe and arrest those who are the accused immediately. I am also writing to the college and university to take steps against the accused.”if they are students. I will not tolerate such a shameful incident whichever party the accused belong to. Our state has a culture. The college and university will give the accused exemplary punishment so that others do not get influenced.”
