Enforcement Directorate quizzes Tapas Pal for nine hours

During the questioning, his statements were recorded by the ED.

Kolkata: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday grilled Trinamul Congress MP Tapas Pal for over nine hours in the Rose Valley chit fund scam. Responding to summons, he appeared at the central agency's office at the CGO Complex in Salt Lake alongwith wife Nandini at around 9.30 am.

During the questioning, his statements were recorded by the ED. Mr Pal who was a director of the film division of Rose Valley Group came out at around 7.30 pm. He however refused to speak to the media. According to ED sources, the Trinamul MP may be summoned for questioning again. The central agency wanted to question him earlier during the Durga Puja.

It also sent him summons. But Mr Pal sent his lawyer stating that he would not be able to turn up. He even urged the ED to meet him at his residence for questionning. But his plea was rejected. Ultimately the parliamentarian had to appear
to reply to questions on a set of files he sent to the ED.

He was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation in December, 2016 for his alleged role in Rose Valley scam. Mr Pal however had to spend most of time of his judicial custody in hospital due to illness. He was granted bail by a court in Odisha in February this year.
