Salt Lake businessman accused of rape, held

Kolkata: A businessman accused of rape was arrested by the Lake police. Rakesh Chowdhury, the accused, was detained from his residence at Sector III in Salt Lake.

The joint commissioner of police (crime) Vishal Garg said that Mr Chowdhury was arrested after questioning. Mr Chowdhury was remanded in the police custody by the court till April 7.

Meanwhile, a middle-aged woman was allegedly raped at gunpoint in Bishnupur in South 24 Parganas on Tuesday night as she was returning home from work. At around 10.40 pm, she got down from a bus. When she was walking along the road towards home, a man attacked her from behind with a knife and dragged her to a bush where she was raped.

The incident took place close to Bishnupur police station. The victim later lodged a complaint with the police.
