Mukul Roy kin held for job racket
Apart from the case of cheating, Srijan is also accused of his role in the murder of Congress leader of Kanchrapara Mrinal Singha Roy.
Berhampore: BJP leader Mukul Roy’s brother-in-law Srijan Roy has been arrested by the police for allegedly cheating several railway job aspirants to the tune of Rs 2 crores. He was caught near the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi.
On Saturday Srijan has been remanded in the police custody by the court. Crying of foul play Mr Roy however claimed of political vendetta by the Trinamul Congress.
On Friday night a special team of the Bijpur police station in North 24 Parganas spotted Srijan near the airport after tracking his movements.
Preliminary investigation revealed that he took anything around Rs 3 lakhs from nearly 60 unemployed youth after promising them jobs in the railways. The victims lodged complaints against Srijan with the police.
Sources disclosed that although Srijan used to stay in New Delhi for the past one and half years, his aides worked under him in the district to lure the job aspirants. According to sources, Srijan’s network flourished when Mr Roy, who was earlier a Rajya Sabha MP of the Trinamul Congress, was the railway minister. Even Mr Roy lost his portfolio, Srijan’s racket continued unabated. Srijan was brought to Kolkata on Saturday morning.
He was produced before judge at the Barrackpore Court who remanded him in the police custody for 12 days following a prayer for his remand by the police.
Apart from the case of cheating, Srijan is also accused of his role in the murder of Congress leader of Kanchrapara Mrinal Singha Roy.
Significantly, Mr Roy’s residence is also located in Kanchrapara. Lashing out at the Trinamul the BJP leader said, “I was the railway minister in 2012. Allegation is that there are nine cases which were filed during my tenure as the railway minister.”
The complaints were filed by some people, brought from a particular locality, who alleged that they gave Rs 3 lakhs each for railway jobs.”
He added, “The Central Bureau of Investigation conducted a probe into the complaints of cash for jobs. A conspiracy is being hatched about how to restrict Mukul Roy because Mamata Banerjee dreads him politically. Will I steal Rs 27 lakhs just because I tabled a railway budget of Rs 90000 crores? Incidents took place in 2012 but the complaints surfaced before the Panchayat Elections in 2018. Judiciary is there.”
