7,200 teachers to be recruited by mid-January 2017, says Partha Chatterjee
Partha Chatterjee added that 10 per cent of the vacancies to be filled up are reserved for para teachers.
Kolkata: Education minister Partha Chatterjee on Monday said that the state government will complete recruitment of nearly 7,2000 teachers in primary, secondary and higher secondary schools by mid-January 2017.
Responding to a query from an MLA at the Bengal Assembly, education minister Partha Chatterjee added that 10 per cent of the vacancies to be filled up are reserved for para teachers.
Elaborating on the figures, the minister said that as many as 1488 will be recruited in Madhyamik schools from Honours graduates, 10233 from pass graduates and 6299 teachers in the Higher Secondary level. “The candidates need to have cleared Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) for recruitment,” he added.
Later talking to reporters, Mr Chatterjee said that his department does not approve the recruitment of the three professors of Jadavpur University whom the university had recruited for a term of three months even after their retirement.
Sources said Jadavpur University vice chancellor Suranjan Das met the minister at the state assembly on Monday. “ He has been asked to talk to the education secretary Vivek Kumar. The government will not give its approval to the Executive Committee (EC) of the university in extending the work tenure of the three professors. We will not deviate even an inch from our recently released circular that states that professors above 60 years of age will not be reappointed,” he said.
The three professors had retired November 30 but the EC decided to extend their appointment for a period of three months as “professors in residence.”
