BJP ropes in ex-TMC MLA for bypolls
In a dramtic twist, Ms Bosu, however, claimed that she was yet to know about her candidature.
Kolkata: The BJP has roped in a former Trinamul Congress MLA Manju Bosu and fielded her to fight the ruling party in the upcoming bypoll in Noapara assembly constituency in northern outkirts of the city. Its central election committee announced her name on Sunday.
In a dramtic twist, Ms Bosu, however, claimed that she was yet to know about her candidature. Triggering mystery she reposed her faith in Trinamul supremo and chief minister Mamata Banerjee. Ms Bosu was elected as Trinamul MLA twice in two different terms. Her husband Bikash Bosu was a Trinamul councillor.
After his murder, Ms Banerjee fielded Ms Bosu at Noapara in 2001 assembly elections. Although Ms Bosu won, she however lost in 2006 assembly polls.
In 2011, Ms Banerjee again gave a chance to Ms Bosu who proved her worth in her turf. In the last Assembly polls Ms Bosu got another chance. She, however, lost to Congress candidate, Madhusudan Ghosh, supported by the Left over a margin over 1000 votes.
In August, last year, Mr Ghosh died after prolong illness leading to the bypoll which will be held on January 29. Ms Bosu’s candidature on the BJP banner remained suspense till the last moment.
Initially, the former Trinamul MLA pinned hope to get another chance from her party. When she found the Trinamul fielded Sunil Singh, a close aide of Arjun Singh, party MLA of Bhatpara, she tilted towards the BJP.
