Kolkata: Student held for circulating morphed photos of woman on social media

Kolkata: A college student was arrested for his alleged involvement in circulating morphed photographs of a woman on different social networking sites, the police said on Thursday.

Soumya Jyoti Sarkar (20), a student of Charu Chandra College, was arrested late last night from his hostel accommodation in Dumdum area of the city for threatening a lady by sending messages from his social networking site as well as WhatsApp of circulating her private pictures to others.

Sarkar, a resident of Tufanganj in Cooch Behar district and studying at Charu Chandra College in the southern part of the city, has been accused by the lady and her parents in their complaint lodged with the Cyber Police of Kolkata Police in the case.

"During investigations we found the accused actually has uploaded certain morphed pictures of the lady and posted it on her Facebook timeline. Some of the photographs were also posted on a couple of fake profiles. He also circulated a few morphed photographs among the complainant's relatives and friends," a senior police officer said.

The youth has been brought to Cyber PS for further examination, he said.
