Kolkata: A woman and her minor son were found dead at their home in Kestopur with froth in their mouth. The deceased were Vijaylakshmi Reddy and her four-year-old son Gaurav.

Returning from work on Saturday evening, Vijajlakshmi’s husband Sonu found her and their son lying in an unconscious state at their rented house in Rabindrapally. He carried his wife and son and came out of the home and asked his neighbours to arrange for a vehicle to rush them to a hospital.

A local resident said that Vijaylakshmi was pregnant and froth was found in the mouth of her and her son. The mother-son duo was declared brought dead at a hospital. The bodies were sent for post-mortem.

Although no suicide note was found, the police suspect that Vijaylakshmi may have committed suicide after killing her son by drugging. A police team later inspected the house. Sonu was later detained by the police for questioning after the local residents alleged that he and his wife had an altercation in the morning.

There were some inconsistencies in his statements, according to sources. They added that Sonu’s relationship with his wife had been strained in last few months. Originally from Andhra Pradesh, the couple and their son were staying here for the last two years.
