Suri: A local court on Tuesday granted bail to 30 persons, arrested in connection with the clashes that took place at Md Bazar, regarding filing of nominations for the upcoming panchayat polls in the state. The clashes took place on Saturday after which the police had arrested the accused, the police said.

The police lodged a complaint against 56 known and 10,000 unknown persons. While 28 persons were arrested on Saturday, two others were arrested on Monday. “The accused were booked under the Arms Act and the IPC,” their lawyer, Somnath Mukherjee, said.

All the accused were granted bail by additional chief judicial magistrate Rina Talukdar since the police failed to produce any arms or ammunition before the court, he said.

The police also could not prove that the accused were involved in the incident that occurred at Md Bazar on Saturday and therefore they were granted bail, Mr Mukherjee added.
