Kolkata: Top scientists and academicians of Bengal will join the rest of the country in organising “March for Science” rally on April 14 to promote scientific temper among people.
The Kolkata Organising committee and the Breakthrough Science Society, two non-government organisations, will host the second edition of the rally in the city. On April 22 last year, more than a million scientists, technologists, teachers and students took part in the rally in over 600 cities across the world.
“The March for Science champions robustly funded and publicly communicated science as a pillar of human freedom and prosperity,” a statement from the organisers said on Tuesday.
The signatories to the statement included former vice-chancellor of Calcutta University Asutosh Ghosh, former professor of Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics Bikash K Chakrabarti, faculty member of Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Soumitro Banerjee and Jadavpur University professor Samaresh Bhattacharya.
“We unite as a diverse, non-partisan group to call for science that upholds the common good...” the statement said, adding that the march will begin from Ramlila Park, in Moulali, and end at Esplanade.
