BJP seeks nod for sit-in at Mamata's dharna spot
The state BJP has sent an email to the city police appealing for its gathering on February 21, 22 and 23, according to sources.
Kolkata: The state BJP has sought permission from the Kolkata Police for organising its dharna for three days this month at Metro Channel in Esplanade where chief minister Mamata Banerjee had held a dharna for three days to protest the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raid at Kolkata police commissioner Rajeev Kumar’s residence in connection with the Saradha chit fund scam a week ago.
The state BJP has sent an email to the city police appealing for its gathering on February 21, 22 and 23, according to sources.
On Monday, state BJP president Dilip Ghosh said, “We want to hold the dharna with the people who were affected by the chit fund scam in the state. Our aim will be to help them get their rights. We will also press for the punishment of the accused, steps by the government and the CBI has to be allowed to function.”
He added, “We have written seeking permission for our programme at that place where the Trinamul Congress supremo sat on dharna without any permission. If we do not get the permission, we will organise it in a different way then by taking out a silent rally in protest.”
Taking a dig at the BJP’s move, Trinamul MP Abhishek Banerjee argued that the saffron party has been following the footsteps of the chief minister.
