Indo-Bangla cycle trip to be flagged from Jessore
Burimari and Lalmonirhat before being flagged in on March 26 at Rangpur in Bangladesh.
Kolkata: The second edition of Joint Indo-Bangladesh armies cycling expedition-2018 will be flagged off from Jessore in Bangladesh on Monday morning.
Themed on “Glorious War of Liberation - 1971” the expedition will cover a distance of over 1200 kms across Bangladesh and India.
From Bangladesh it will travel through Kolkata, Burdwan, Berhampore, Malda, Raiganj, Silliguri, Jalpaiguri, Binnaguri, Cooch Behar, Burimari and Lalmonirhat before being flagged in on March 26 at Rangpur in Bangladesh.
The 47-member expedition team which is comprised of 20 officers, four junior commissioned officers/warrant officers and 23 soldiers from both the armies, will also interact with war veterans and Mukti Bahini members enroute, said chief public relations officer of the eastern command wing commander SS Birdi on Sunday.
He elaborated, “The genesis of this cycling expedition dates back to the sixth annual Army-to-Army Staff Talks of the two countries in 2016 wherein it was decided to promote bilateral friendship through joint adventure activities.”
Wing commander, Mr Birdi added, “The objective of this expedition is to foster a closer cooperation and brotherhood between both the armies. Moreover the team members will be exposed to healthy outdoor activities, adventure skills.”
