Kolkata: Bar baron of Baguiati Jagjit Singh’s son Gursimran Singh was arrested by the criminal investigation department (CID) in New Delhi on Sunday for his alleged role in a cheating case.

According to sources, Trinamul Congress Howrah district president and minister Arup Ray had recently lodged a complaint of cheating against him with the state detective agency.

Probing his complaint the CID found a cheating racket to the tune of Rs 16 crores which has been spread across the districts including Bankura. They learnt that Gursimran also owned a number of dance-bars, restaurants and restaurants like his father.

The state detective agency has plans to conduct raids on these locations apart from interrogating him face to face with his father who earlier faced arrest and has been in the judicial custody.

Deputy inspector general of police (operations) of the CID Nishat Parvez said that Gurshimran was produced before the additional chief metropolitan magistrate at the Patiala House on Monday.

He added that the ACMM allowed the CID to bring the accused to the state in a transit remand within September 14 at the Bankura court.
