Divisional heads to ensure smooth rail functioning in rains
Wipers of the engines must be properly checked and cleaned for better visibility of drivers.
Kolkata: In a high level review meeting Eastern Railway (ER) general manager Harindra Rao on Tuesday directed the divisional railway managers of Asansol, Howrah, Sealdah and Malda to take all precautionary measures for smooth running of trains during the ensuing monsoon season.
At the meeting ER Headquarters: Fairlie Place he asked them to ensure that the drains near the platform be cleaned immediately for drainage of rain water to avoid water logging.
He instructed that the yard near major stations, the drainage system at low land areas have to be cleaned for smooth drainage of water to help in minimising the signaling failure at yard and also at platform areas.
To minimise complaints regarding leakage of water from roof, carriage and wagon department under various divisions should properly inspect the roof of the coaches for ensuring any seepage of the water during the rainy season, Mr Rao added. As a safety measure, the wipers of the engines must be properly checked and cleaned for better visibility of drivers, he mentioned while underlining that soil erosion areas should be identified and sufficient number of sand bags, stone chips and ballast should be kept in readiness at nearby places for immediate transportation of the same to the identified places.
