West Bengal: Store staff held for stealing ornaments
The accused, Bikash Shashmal, was caught from his home at Udaynarayanpur in Howrah.
Kolkata: A jewellery store manager was arrested by the police for stealing ornaments in his own store in Baranagar of North 24 Parganas. The accused, Bikash Shashmal, was caught from his home at Udaynarayanpur in Howrah. He has been working at the store in Netaji Colony for the last 15 years. Bikash has admitted to his role in the crime.
He however claimed to the police that only 300 gm of gold and Rs 15,000 were stolen from the store while the store owner had complained to the police that 800 gm of gold and Rs 30,000 were stolen. The investigators are now verifying the two versions. No items of the stolen booty have been recovered.
This was not the first time that Bikash came under the scanner. Two months ago, a theft of Rs 2 lakh had taken place in the same store. Bikash was accused of the theft but he denied his role. On August 10, another theft took place in an almost similar style. Nine locks were opened using keys.
Had the theft been the handiwork of an outsider, the locks would have been broken, according to the police. Since the finding, the police suspected of an insider’s hand in the theft, which turned out to be true.
