BJP state chief Dilip Ghosh regrets anti-CM comments

Kolkata: State BJP president and party MLA Dilip Ghosh on Tuesday expressed regrets in the House of the Assembly over his derogatory statements about chief minister Mamata Banerjee recently.

After the question hour deputy chief whip of Trinamul Congress Tapas Roy mentioned that he had doubt about the mental state of Mr Ghosh for his derogatory comments about the chief minister who is also the leader of the House.

Later Assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee asked Mr Ghosh during the business advisory (BA) committee meeting to rectify himself for his comments. He also asked the members of the House to not to use any derogatory remark.

After the recess when the session got underway in the House again, Mr Ghosh claimed that his comments were the outcome of excitement. “My comments were not aimed at anyone. I am new to the politics of West Bengal,” he said.

Mr Ghosh added, “I never wanted to hurt or insult anyone with my words. I express my regret if the chief minister or anyone else has been hurt by my words. After all the chief minister is also the leader of the House.”

When asked about Mr Ghosh’s regret, parliamentary affairs minister Partha Chatterjee however made it clear that the ruling party was not bothered about what the state BJP president said in the House.

“The law will take its own course,” he said indicating that the administration would act into the cases filed against Mr Ghosh with the police.
