Kolkata: Both the existing and upcoming attractions of New Town have found place in a Bengali calendar.

A city based online portal “MadeinBengal.in” joined hands with West Bengal Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation (Hidco), to come up with the calendar, marking the beginning of the Bengali New Year- “Poila Baisakh”.

The calendar showcases products like Bengal tea, sweets, clothings, books, magazines and other impressive handicrafts of the state that are sold across the country through the “Made In Bengal” portal.

The calendar also promotes New Town as a tourist destination. It was launched by Hidco chairman Debashis Sen at Eco Park.

“A Bengali calendar  has hardly been made with passion. A picture of a God or Goddess, and dates in Bengali showing the Tithis, the different phases of the moon like (Purnima, Amabasya) are what we perceive of a Bengali calendar,” Bhaskar Mukherjee, founder of the portal said.

This (the calendar) is in stark contrast, and has 12 different pictures photographed by a renowned photographer,” Mr Mukherjee added.

The calendar is not for sale and 250 copies of it have been distributed among guests and people associated with the “MadeinBengal” portal. It will be on display at the portal’s office at Hindustan Park in Gariahat.

“Eco Park in New Town is one of the finest parks in the world. This initiative will promote the place at the international level,” Mr Sen said.

Apart from Bengali dates, the calendar will also have English dates in a smaller size, in order to maintain modernity.
