Kolkata: The Kolkata police has launched a probe into the alleged threat by state BJP president Dilip Ghosh to harm chief minister Mamata Banerjee after a Trinamul Congress activist from the city lodged a complaint against the Kharagapur MLA with the Sinthee police station.

On Saturday, joint commissioner of police (crime) Vishal Garg said, “The working president of Trinamul Congress committee of North Kolkata district at ward no 2 of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation submitted a letter of complaint against Dilip Ghosh, president of BJP West Bengal who delivered his speech and threatened in a meeting at Kharagpur Malancha area on July 14 against the CM. An enquiry is going on.”

According to sources, no case has however been initiated by the police following the complaint till the reports last came in.

On Friday, Mr Ghosh threatened that the chief minister’s residence would be set on fire if the Trinamul dared to “touch” him.  After the complaint was lodged against him, he however took an U-turn.

“Has the CM got so panicked at what I said? We never threat anyone of harm,” Mr Ghosh claimed. He alleged that Trimanul workers have been attacking the BJP activists across the state.
