CM: Opposition parties trying to delay panchayat polls
At many places nominations have been filed already. The nominations were filed at the sub divisional offices also.
Kolkata: Hours after her party’s setback at the division bench of the Calcutta high court, Trinamul supremo Mamata Banerjee on Monday accused the Opposition parties of delaying the panchayat elections on the pretext of moving courts which has led to a legal battle over the rural polls.
In the evening, the chief minister said at the state secretariat, “I will not comment on court-matters. No comment is my only comment. But in reality we are suffering troubles.”
She elaborated, “The panchayat polls’ schedule was announced according to the administrative calendar. The higher secondary examinations are over. Nominations were also filed. The higher secondary examinations passed through peacefully. Several lakhs of students appeared at the examinations.
At many places nominations have been filed already. The nominations were filed at the sub divisional offices also.” Targeting the Opposition, Ms Banerjee alleged, “The CPI(M), Congress and BJP — the three brothers — are spreading canards to hog the media’s limelight. Elections mean exercising your democratic rights.
Why don’t you face the elections if you have faith in the people? Instead of facing the polls you deliberately cause delay by raising different types of political issues. I also can raise questions like you.”
She complained, “It is sad that the development of the state is getting halted. Our problem is no new project can be undertaken or no decision can be taken due to the model code of conduct. Those projects which were underway can not be finished. As a result the state is lagging behind.”
