Trinamul MLA injured in clash over factional feud
Mete suffered fracture in his right hand after he was attacked by Rabiul, the Trinamul block president of Indus and his followers on the road.
Kolkata: The factional feud within the Trinamul Congress continued even on a day of joy and celebration for the ruling party as its MLA Gurupada Mete from Indus in Bankura was injured along with four others in a clash with his rival faction led by Rabiul Hossain when the legislator was going to attend a meeting to curb internal feud.
Mr Mete suffered fracture in his right hand after he was attacked by Rabiul, the Trinamul block president of Indus and his followers on the road. Mr Mete was rushed to Bishnupur District Hospital where he was treated. Trinamul leader Shyamapada Mukherjee later visited Mr Mete in the hospital.
The district Trinamul is organising meetings in blocks to tackle factional feud. On Wednesday, one such meeting was scheduled in Indus block where internal feud is well known between two camps: One led by Mr Mete while another by Mr Hossain. Both sides were supposed to attend the meeting.
But the trouble began after Mr Mete’s followers wanted to come to the meeting in a rally.
Mr Hossain’s followers resisted them. This led to the clash between the two factions.
Mr Mete later alleged, “Rabiul was present at the spot. He led the attack when I was on way to the meeting. His aides attacked us with sticks. They beat us up mercilessly. Even I was not spared.” He, however, claimed that he did not know why he was attacked.
