Scolded by mom, boy kills himself after FB post

Kolkata: Scolded by his mother for performing badly in six-monthly school test, a class 11 student hanged himself after posting his last message on his Facebook page on Wednesday night. Family members of Samprit Banerjee (17), the deceased, however blamed Pranab Dutta, one of his school teachers, for his drastic step.
Samprit of Banerjeepara Road at Paschim Putiary of Haridevpur was a student of commerce at Pranabananda Vidyapeath in Regent Park. He loved playing guitar. On Wednesday evening he was rebuked by his mother, Aparna Banerjee, for his poor performance in the half-yearly examination and his poor attendance in school.
Ms Banerjee said, “I scolded him mildly because he scored below 60 per cent. I asked him what he would now happen to him with this performance as the school teacher told all the students they would not be allowed to appear in the final examination if they scored below 60 per cent and had poor attendance.”
At around 11.01 pm Samprit wrote ‘Gd Byeee...’ in his Facebook wall. He later committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling in his room at the first floor of his residence. His father, Subrata Banerjee, discovered him dead on Friday morning and informed the police which recovered the body.
Deputy commissioner of police (South West) Meeraj Khalid said, “Enquiry reveals that he was scolded by his parents last evening for not doing well in the exam.” Mr Banerjee claimed his son complained to him about being targeted and humiliated by Mr Dutta in the class.
“I once thought I would complain against the teacher with the school authorities,” he said. Ms Banerjee alleged, “Mr Dutta was behaving rudely with my son for many days. Since his school is a co-ed one, the teacher used to ask him to go out of the class soon after his entry.”
She added, “ He even humiliated him in front all by making him stand in the class to punish him. Samprit did not go to school on those days Mr Dutta had two classes. I want to ask Mr Dutta why he was so vindictive against my son?”
