Kolkata: A teenager was killed after he lost control of the motorcycle while driving it dangerously on Vidyasagar Setu on Saturday morning. The victim, Lalu Sahani alias Samuel (18), was a resident of Beltala Road in Bhowanipore.

He was not wearing helmet like his pillion rider, Amit Balmiki (21), who, however, survived with minor injuries. The accident took place at around 7.15 am in Hastings area. Riding the two-wheeler, Lalu was coming down the AJC Bose Road Ramp of Vidyasagar Setu from Howrah side.

He was trying to display his balancing skills when the mishap occurred, eye-witnesses told the police later. Suddenly, the two-wheeler lost direction and hit the divider of the ramp, preliminary investigation revealed.

Lalu and Amit were flung off their seats and were injured. The cops reached the spot and rushed them to SSKM Hospital, where Lalu succumbed to injuries. Amit was discharged after first-aid. The motorcycle was impounded. It belongs to Lalu’s elder brother, the police found.

Speaking to the victim’s family, the police learnt that Lalu left home riding the two-wheeler early in the morning without informing his parents and brother. Picking up his friend, he drove to Princep Ghat off river Hooghly before heading towards Howrah.
