Kolkata: A day after grilling former IPS officer Bharati Ghosh’s husband MAV Raju the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Wednesday recovered around Rs 2 crores in cash from a flat in Bansdroni in a case of extortion charges at Daspur police station in West Midnapore.

CID deputy inspector-general of police (operations) Nishat Parvez informed that the flat is owned by an acquaintance of Mr Raju.

Wads of cash, all of Rs 500 denomination, were recovered from the flat. Mr Parvez said, “The key of the flat was reportedly with Sri MAV Raju and the cash was kept there by Sujit Mondal, who was the security guard of the retired IPS officer and presently absconding. The search was made observing all legal formalities. All CID personnel were subjected to their own bodysearch before entering and before leaving the flat.” The flat-owner was present throughout the entire search which was videographed. With this recovery, the state detective agency seized Rs 4.5 crores in cash allegedly linked to Ms Ghosh. Besides it also recovered several lakhs in cash from some of the arrested cops earlier in the case which was initiated following a complaint by gold merchant Chandan Majhi.
