Bombs hurled outside railway station, train services hit
During the obstruction period the ER said that train services were run up to Barrackpore on the up line and up to Naihati on down direction.
Kolkata: Brandishing firearms, miscreants hurled bricks and bombs targeting trains on Tuesday disrupting train services for several hours. Hundreds of office-bound passengers had to get down from the stranded trains midway for cover.
Senior BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya alleged in tweet that West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee has instructed Barrackpore police commissioner Sunil Chaudhary to arrest BJP candidate of Barrackpore Lok Sabha seat: Arjun Singh.
Trouble began in the morning when armed goons covering their faces with gamchha (towel) started pelting stones and hurling bombs aiming at the trains passing through Kankinara at Bhatpara. Firing in the air, they also put up rail blockade.
The Eastern Railway later informed that train services on the Sealdah-Naihati section of Sealdah division were obstructed for nearly three hours since 8.43 am “as a group of people squatted on the Railway track near level crossing gate no. 29 T at Kankinara on non-railway cause.” During the obstruction period the ER said that train services were run up to Barrackpore on the up line and up to Naihati on down direction.
It added that train services became normal from 12.04 pm after the rail blockade was lifted. 17 EMU trains were detained en route including three mail/express trains.
