Assessment of 20,000 papers a priority with Mumbai University

Mumbai: The University of Mumbai (MU) has made assessment of revaluation papers of the summer term examination a priority. Out of around 85,000 cases, still 20,000 papers are left to assessed and evaluated. The target for the teachers is to complete this assessment by December 30 because teachers have to focus on completion of assessment of winter term examination as well.

Himmat Chaudhari, in-charge of revaluation at MU said the priority has been made to revaluation as once new papers start coming, both summer and winter term papers will clash with the revaluation papers giving way to more confusion. Hence, we have instructed all the teachers involved in the assessment to clear the revaluation papers first if they get any in their online assessment system.

This year, the total figure of revaluation is 84,348 which is the highest compared to any previous years. MU officials say this figure continues to increase as many students are unsatisfied with the marks they have received. Till now, around 65,847 assessment is completed which means around 20,000 is still untouched. An official said that the assessment and evaluation will be mostly done by 10 to 15 days.

Meanwhile, the teachers are finding it difficult to manage lectures, supervision and assessment together. “We have lectures of our students, college level examination and its assessment and the MU’s assessment. This has come together this time because of the shift in the academic calendar due to the result mess. However, there is very less pressure from the MU this time around and work is going smoothly as of now,” said a teacher of a suburban college.
