Two TMC MLAs target of fraud, theft

Kolkata: Two Trinamul Congress MLAs became the target of theft in the state in two separate incidents.

Banashree Maity, the ruling party MLA of North Contai in East Midnapore, alleged that around Rs 3.50 lakhs have been siphoned off from her bank account with a PSU bank.

In Kolkata, another Trinamul MLA Swarnakamal Saha’s residence was struck by a thief who took away mobile, laptop and some cash.

Ms Maity who came to the Assembly on Friday to cast her vote in the Rajya Sabha Elections, alleged that she was not aware of the transaction till Thursday morning. She said, “At 10.51 am a message came to my mobile from SBI where I have my account. It stated that I had transferred Rs 3.5 lakhs from my account to Investment Intermedi. But the fact is I neither know this private company nor I am associated with it anyway.”

Ms Maity claimed, “Also I did not transfer the amount on that company’s name. I will lodge a complaint with the bank. I did not hear the name of the company earlier. After it happened to me I suspected that Investment Intermedi has been involved in fraud duping common people with small amount of money from each.”

She wondered how it happened to her as she ruled out of sharing her bank account details to anyone.

Meanwhile, a thief scaled the boundary wall of Mr Saha’s residence near a cinema hall in Entally in central Kolkata on Thursday night.

Mr Saha alleged that the accused sneaked into his younger son’s room after breaking the grill in the balcony on the second floor at around 2 am according to the CCTV footage.

After stealing a mobile and a laptop, the thief went to the MLA’s elder son’s room and stole money.

Alerted by the sound of movements Mr Saha said he woke up and switched on all the lights of the house.

The thief, however, managed to escape. Later, a knife was found lying. Mr Saha lodged a complaint with the New Market police station. Senior police officers inspected his residence later.
