Woman hangs herself with sari in kitchen

Kolkata: A middle-aged home-maker was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Parnashree early on Monday.

 Jayanti Karmakar (47), the deceased, was a resident of Netaji Subhas Road. The body was lying on the floor in the kitchen, the police said. Jayanti’s husband, Ratan Karmakar, told the police that she hanged herself using a sari from the exhaust fan in the kitchen before her body fell off due to weight.

Jayanti was declared brought dead at Vidyasagar Hospital. She was staying there with her husband and son Raunak (20) for the last seven years as tenant. The police learnt that Jayanti was suffering from various ailments including psychiatric problems since the death of her father and brother within a year and she was under treatment.
