68th Republic Day celebrated with enthusiasm in West Bengal

The main celebration was held at Red Road where thousands of people gathered to watch the Republic Day parade.

Kolkata: The 68th Republic Day on Thursday celebrated in West Bengal with enthusiasm and gaiety.

The main celebration was held at Red Road where thousands of people gathered to watch the Republic Day parade and procession which showcased army artillery guns and rocket launchers. The Army's motorcycle event was cheered by the onlookers.

The event began with Governor K N Tripathi hoisting the tricolour followed by showering of flowers from helicopters.

He also presided over the hour-long march past of armed forces, police forces and school students.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee attended the parade along with her senior cabinet colleagues.

School students from various parts of the state took part in the colourful programme, which was also attended by senior officials from the Army, the Navy and the Air Force. Banerjee greeted everyone on the occasion of 68th Republic Day.
