Kolkata: Chief minister Mamata Banerjee and several actors from the Tollywood expressed their shock and mourned over the death of Bollywood legend Sridevi in Dubai. On Sunday morning, Ms Banerjee tweeted, “Saddened at the untimely passing away of Sridevi, one of the most popular actors of a generation. Condolences to her family, her colleagues in the industry and fans.”

Famous Bengali actor Prasenjit Chatterjee said in a tweet, “I have no words. Was shocked early morning with the sudden demise of one of the most beautiful and talented actresses of Indian cinema, Sridevi. Rest in peace.”

Another popular actor Dev, who is also a Trinamul Congress MP tweeted, “In disbelief. Strength to the family. So many childhood memories lost.. RIP SRIDEVI.”

According to Sabyasachi Chakraborty, who also acted in Bollywood films, Sridevi’s untimely death cannot be accepted. He said, “We have seen her movies time and again. There are many films which do not get old even if they are watched repeatedly. She was such a talented actress. Her age was not for something to pass away. At our age we are still continuing to work. She was not at all ailing.”

Mr Chakraborty added, “We had expected more performances from her. But it is indeed tragic considering the age she has passed away. Had she been alive, she would have continued to act in more films which would have been examples not only for the young generations but also for us. It is an irrepairable loss. Her death can not be accepted. But we have no other way.”

Actor Indrani Haldar said, “Hema Malini was the dreamgirl of one generation. But Sridevi was the dreamgirl of our generation. Be it on-screen or off-screen she was a different personality. I saw it. There is a big Shani temple in Juhu where I used to visit. Sridevi also used to visit there regularly. She was a religious woman. She used to offer prayers alone and all by herself.” She recalled, “She looked calm without make-up. After worshiping she used to leave silently despite being such a big star.”
