Trinamul Young Congress president gunned down
The victim, Najmul Sheikh (33), was the Trinamul Young Congress president at Goljan of the district.
Berhmapore/Kolkata: On a day Trinamul Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee instructed her party rank and file to win all the seats in the Lok Sabha Elections, alleged faction feud in her party claimed a life in Berhampore of Murshidabad.
The victim, Najmul Sheikh (33), was the Trinamul Young Congress president at Goljan of the district. He was a garments trader from Musuridanga. His wife, Golchehara Bibi, is a member of Goljan-Niyallishpara gram panchayat.
Strongly reacting to the incident, Trinamul secretary general Partha Chatterjee said, “I will take up the matter with Trinamul Youth Congress persident and MP Abhishek Banerjee. I will try to unite those without any fear.”
On Monday morning, Najmul left home riding his scooty. A gang of four armed miscreants, wearing helmets, stopped him on the way near Niyallishpara Ferry Ghat at around 10 am. They fired three rounds on him from pointblank range, preliminary investigation revealed.
With bullet injuries on the chest, Najmul slumped on the road as the assailants fled. Local residents rescued and rushed him to Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital where he was declared brought dead. The body was sent for post-mortem.
