Kolkata: Triggering controversy once again state BJP president on Tuesday threatened to take revenge against the police. Addressing a rally at Hemtabad in North Dinajpur he declared that the cops would not be spared if the BJP comes to power in West Bengal.

His comments came on a day BJP North Dinajpur district president Shankar Chakraborty who was arrested by the police for allegedly threatening to tie the cops with trees and beat them was granted bail in one of the two cases against him.

Mr Ghosh earlier defended Mr Chakraborty for his threat to the police at a rally in wake of the death of two students in allegedl police firing during violence over teachers' recruitment at Daribhit High School in the district.

Mr Ghosh said, "People are getting united. We will uproot the Trinamul Congress from power in 2021 surely. We have started noting down the names of the inspectors in charge and IPS officers who are acting at the behest of the Trinamul."

He added, "Before coming to power, Mamata Banerjee had announced of bringing change, not taking revenge. We do not understand change. When we would come to power, there will be revenge only. We are not like them. We do what say and we say what we do."

Mr Ghosh even reminded the rank and file of the police that their salary comes from the tax-payers' money. He also questioned why the people in uniform would attack the common people.

"Why do the police fail to trace who shot dead the two students if they had not opened the fire," the Kharagpur MLA asked. His explosive speech coincided the bail to Mr Chakraborty against a bond of Rs 5,000 granted by additional chief judicial magistrate Mohua Basu Roy of Islampur Court in one case.

Mr Chakraborty was however remanded in two weeks' judicial custody by chief judicial magistrate Suresh Singh in another case over his threat to the police. The state BJP chief later informed that the party would move the Calcutta High Court demanding a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the two students' killing.

According to him, the teachers' recuritment was being done at the school forcibly on the instruction of a minister. The two students lost their lives while protesting the irregularity. Mr Ghosh claimed that state education minister Partha Chatterjee would have to explain over the twin deaths.
