Cylinder burst in moving car kills passenger
Cops of the Bowbazar police station and officers of the detective department visited the spot.
Kolkata: An explosion at a moving car killed one and left others injured in central Kolkata on Sunday afternoon.
The explosion was caused when a gas cylinder used for blowing balloons went off accidentally.
The cylinder was kept on the rear seat of the sedan: WB02AH6922 which was going from Esplanade to Mohammed Ali Park where an event was scheduled.
The explosion took place when the car was at Chittaranjan Avenue-BB Ganguly Street crossing in front of the Central metro station.
The impact of the explosion was so powerful that the car got mangled while its windscreens were broken.
While Bhupal Halder (40) succumbed to his injuries, Sanjay Saha (29) was in critical condition, the officer said, adding, an investigation has been ordered into the incident.
Three fire engines were pressed into service. The three injured were rushed to Calcutta Medical Medical College and Hospital for treatment. Most of them suffered burn injuries.
